Borno State Governor, Babagana Umara Zulum, has officially signed the 2025 appropriation bill into law, with a total value of N615.86 billion. The budget, initially estimated at N584.76 billion when presented on December 9, 2024, was passed by the State Assembly on December 24 with a N31 billion increase following extensive deliberations by lawmakers. At a brief ceremony held on Monday at the Government House’s Council Chamber, Governor Zulum, who dubbed the budget the “Budget of Recovery and Continuity,” expressed his commitment to completing all outstanding projects promised during his 2023 election campaign. “This year is crucial for me as I aim to fulfill all the promises made during my 2023 campaign,” Zulum remarked. He urged heads of Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs), as well as state executive council members, to adhere strictly to the provisions of the budget when presenting their memos for approval. The governor also praised the leadership and members of the Borno State House of Assembly for approving the budget promptly, highlighting the role of the legislature in supporting the state’s development. In response, Speaker of the Borno State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Abdulkarim Lawan, commended Governor Zulum for his leadership and the successful projects executed across the state over the past six years. Lawan explained that the budget revision was necessary to accommodate critical people-centered initiatives to be undertaken by the state’s ministries and agencies.
