Zamfara Governor Approves Recruitment of 2,000 Teachers

Governor Dauda Lawal of Zamfara State has given the green light for the recruitment of 2,000 teachers as part of efforts to improve the state’s education sector. The announcement was made during an Executive Council meeting held on Monday at the Government House in Gusau. This development was detailed in a statement issued on Thursday by the governor’s spokesperson, Sulaiman Bala Idris. The statement described the initiative as a fulfillment of Governor Lawal’s campaign promises and emphasized the administration’s prioritization of education, which has already seen notable progress. “Governor Dauda Lawal, committed to revitalizing education in Zamfara State, declared a state of emergency in the education sector on November 14, 2023,” Idris stated. The emergency response has included: Construction and renovation of over 400 schools across the 14 local government areas. Provision of 12,000 two-seater desks for pupils. Equipping schools with over 700 tables and 1,000 chairs for teachers. During the council meeting, Governor Lawal reaffirmed his dedication to enhancing the quality of education in Zamfara. “The government will recruit 2,000 qualified teachers to help revitalize the education sector,” he said, noting that the recruitment process would be conducted in phases to ensure fairness and transparency. The first phase will commence with the recruitment of 500 teachers in the first quarter of the year, focusing on critical subjects such as: English Mathematics Chemistry Physics Biology ICT Entrepreneurship Studies Governor Lawal highlighted that the initiative is part of the AGILE Program, aiming to reverse the decay in the education sector and improve the quality of teaching and learning across the state.
