WTD: Enugu State to showcase Nigeria’s cultural diversity for unity, peaceful co-existence

Enugu State Government says it will use the World Tourism Day (WTD) 2021 to build unity and peaceful co-existence among various tribes and communities within the state.

The General Manager of Enugu State Tourism Board, Chief Steve Odo, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Wednesday in Enugu that the state was preparing a robust celebration for the Day coming up on Sept. 27.

Odo said that the board would use the day to showcase Nigeria’s cultural diversities through culture, folklores, cuisines and heritage as a united and peaceful people.

“We are expecting to get the Hausa and Yoruba communities within the state to present their rich cultures, dances, cuisines and folklores.

“It is going to be juxtaposed with the state rich cultural heritage as well.

“This will definitely lead for better understanding, unity and peaceful co-existence among everybody living within the state,” he said.

The general manager said that the event would be held at the newly inaugurated Unity Park opposite Government House in Enugu.

He said that there would be cultural games and masquerade displays to add colour to the event that would last for at  least four hours.

Odo, however, appreciated the state government for ensuring a conducive environment for tourism and hospitality businesses to thrive in the state.

“In terms of security, Enugu State remains one of the safest states in the country.

“We have good night life culture and our people love visitors and tourists also,” he said.

NAN reports that the theme for this year’s World Tourism Day is “Tourism for Inclusive Growth”.

The day is celebrated to draw attention of governments and people towards the issues surrounding tourism and its growth worldwide. (NAN)
