Tensions are rising in Northern Nigeria following the mob killing of 16 hunters in Uromi, Edo State. The victims were allegedly mistaken for criminals, lynched, and burned despite carrying licensed hunting rifles.

Security expert and retired JTF commander, Dr. Isma’il Tanko Birnin Kudu, condemned the attack as “heinous” and called for transparent prosecution of all culprits. He praised Governor Okpebholo’s swift response but insisted justice must be seen to be done.
Tanko urged the federal government to compensate the victims’ families and issue a public apology to the Hunters Association of Nigeria, warning that further inaction could spark reprisal attacks.
He also called for the professional training of vigilante groups by retired military personnel to prevent such tragic incidents.
