UNICAL VC approves keep-fit programme for workers, students

Prof. Florence Obi, the Vice Chancellor of the University of Calabar (UNICAL), has approved the effective implementation of the keep-fit programme for staff members and students.

The approval is contained in a statement on Monday in Calabar by the Registrar of the university, Mr Gabriel Egbe.

It stated that the programme, coordinated by the Department of Sports in collaboration with the Department of Human Kinetics and Health Education, was in line with the directives of National Universities Commission.

According to the statement, the programme will enhance participation in sports for total education of the students and healthy bodies for efficient and effective service delivery by staff members.

”As a way of ensuring mass participation in this programme, the Vice Chancellor has approved the observance of work/lecture-free period for all staff members and students from 3:30pm every Wednesday of the week.

“The approval is to enable staff members and students to assemble at Abraham Ordia Sports Stadium from 3:30pm for the keep-fit programme every Wednesday of the week.

“Members of the university community are encouraged to take full advantage of the programme to enhance their health status,” it stated. (NAN
