Umugbulu Youths Elect New Leaders in a Historic Assembly

Elections are a pivotal moment for the masses, offering electorates the opportunity to choose leaders who align with their interests and aspirations. It is also a time of reckoning, where the performance of incumbents and the promises of aspirants are assessed, often determining their political fate. Such was the case on Saturday, April 26th, 2023, when the youths of Umugbulu gathered to elect their new leaders in a spirited and well-organized exercise.
The election, held at the Umugbulu Progressive Hall, drew a significant turnout of youths from near and far. The event began with the outgoing Secretary, Mr. Okeke Michael, presenting the minutes of the previous meeting, followed by the Financial Secretary, Tochukwu Ngene, delivering the financial report. With these formalities concluded, the outgoing executives were officially dissolved, marking the posts vacant and setting the stage for the election.

Accreditation of voters was conducted meticulously, revealing a total of 108 eligible voters. Before the voting commenced, the Chairman of the Umugbulu Progressive Assembly addressed the youths, urging them to view the exercise as a valuable training ground for future leadership roles. He emphasized that such experiences would prepare them for greater responsibilities in the years to come.
Adding to the atmosphere of encouragement, the National Youth President of the Nise Youth Organization, Comrade Chinaza Okoye, congratulated the chairmanship candidates, describing them both as winners. He called for unity and collaboration, regardless of the election’s outcome, to ensure the progress of the community.


Among the contested positions, four posts were unopposed: Secretary, Assistant Secretary, Treasurer, Financial Secretary, and. The results of the election were as follows:
Assistant Secretary: Ikeji David secured the position with 67 Yes votes, 34 invalid votes, and 7 No votes.
Treasurer: Nwandu Chidi emerged victorious with 68 Yes votes, 34 invalid votes, and 6 No votes.
Financial Secretary: Ngene Tochukwu retained the role with 65 Yes votes, 34 invalid votes, and 9 No votes.
Secretary: Okeke Michael was re-elected with 68 Yes votes, 34 invalid votes, and 6 No votes.
Welfare Officer: Ezenwaka Onyema triumphed with 57 valid votes, defeating Ekpele Nwaene, who garnered 43 valid votes.
Public Relations Officer (PRO): Udeze Okechukwu won with 63 votes, while Onyia Chinenye, with 40 votes, was designated as PRO 2.
Provost: Okafor Izundu claimed the position with 61 votes, while his contender, Ezenwaka Chidi, received 42 votes and was named Provost 2.
The highlight of the election was the contest for the Chairmanship position. Uchenna Enekwechi (Ikponze) emerged as the new Chairman, defeating his opponent, Iloabuchi Ezenwaka (Onowu), with 57 votes to 49.
The election was a testament to the unity and democratic spirit of the Umugbulu youths, setting a strong foundation for future leadership and community development. The newly elected leaders now bear the responsibility of steering the youth body toward progress and inclusivity.
