UK Issues Travel Warning for Multiple Nigerian Cities

The United Kingdom’s Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) has issued a travel advisory warning British citizens against non-essential travel to several key regions in Nigeria. The advisory, released on Tuesday, cites the possibility of renewed nationwide protests as the primary concern.

Abuja, Lagos, Borno, Kano, and Imo are among the cities specifically highlighted as high-risk areas. The FCDO warns that political rallies, demonstrations, and violent protests could erupt with little to no warning in these locations.

This advisory follows recent widespread demonstrations across Nigeria that resulted in significant disruptions and reports of violence. While these protests have subsided for now, the FCDO cautions that they could resume unexpectedly.

British nationals in Nigeria are advised to exercise extreme caution, monitor local media, avoid traveling after dark, and steer clear of large crowds. The FCDO also recommends staying informed through official UK Travel Advice channels.

The advisory reiterates previous warnings against travel to northern states such as Borno, Katsina, Kano, and Kebbi due to terrorism concerns. It also advises against travel to several southern states, including Abia, Anambra, and parts of Delta, citing general insecurity issues.

This latest warning comes in the wake of several countries, including Nigeria, issuing their own travel advisories against the UK. These were prompted by recent violent far-right protests in British cities targeting immigrants.
