UCTH Terminates Radiographer Over Negligence in Patient’s Death

The University of Calabar Teaching Hospital (UCTH) has dismissed a locum radiographer for alleged negligence following the death of a patient at the facility. According to a reliable source, the radiographer failed to provide the key to the emergency X-ray room, delaying critical treatment. The patient, who had been rushed to the hospital, slipped into a coma and later passed away. The source added, “The radiographer could not offer any explanation regarding the missing key.” The hospital’s management issued a termination letter dated January 22, signed by Dr. Maria Bassey, the Director of Administration. While the letter did not specify reasons, it is believed the dismissal was tied to the incident. The letter stated: “This is to inform you that your services in the UCTH as a radiographer are no longer required. Consequently, your appointment is hereby terminated with immediate effect.”
