Tension as kingship tussle tears community apart

Tension is brewing in Idjerhe community in Ethiope West local government area of Delta state following faceoff over the kingship stool in the traditional kingdom.

Residents of the kingdom, including indigenes, on Wednesday, called on the state Governor Ifeanyi Okowa to step into the issue as it was likely to tear the kingdom apart.

Speaking to our correspondent in Asaba, secretary of Onovwo Family, Mr Patrick Ikogho, alleged that some politicians were behind the moves to cause mayhem in the kingdom and accused them of coming up with actions strange to the culture and tradition of the area all in their bid not to recognise the existence of the Ovie-elect of Idjerhe Kingdom, Angus Agofure Omasoro Udu 1, Udurhie1.

Mr Ikogho alleged that part of the problem was that the Ovie-elect refused to part with five million Naira demanded as bribe by a chief for support over his quest for kingship. He appealed to Okowa to come to the rescue of the Onovwo family.
