Sokoto Police Arrest Security Guard, Recover Stolen NBC Equipment

The Sokoto Police Command has apprehended Musbahu Auwal, a security guard at the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) Zonal Office in Sokoto, for allegedly collaborating with others to steal office equipment and materials. In a statement released by the Command’s spokesperson, DSP Ahmad Rufai, it was revealed that the theft was reported on January 17, 2025, by Ladan Muhammad, NBC’s Zonal Director, at the Uguwar Rogo Police Station. Muhammad reported that unknown individuals had stolen items from the Commission’s office in the Gagi area of Sokoto. Following the report, a police investigation led by the Divisional Crime Officer confirmed the theft of several items, including a three-kilovolt inverter, three 600-kilovolt inverter batteries, a fridge compressor, a brand-new tyre for an office bus, and a 32-inch LG television. Auwal was invited for questioning, during which he confessed to conspiring with Ismaila Ahmad from the Nakasare area to commit the theft. Subsequent investigations resulted in the arrest of accomplices Yahuza Tukur and Abdulrahman Abbas, also from Nakasare, who helped hide the stolen items. Additionally, three receivers of the stolen goods—Basiru Lawali from Kuffa, Murtala Tijani from Kwanni, and Abubakar Umar from Gangaren Kuffa—were apprehended. All stolen items were recovered. Commissioner of Police Ahmed Musa commended the officers for their swift action and thanked the public for their cooperation. He encouraged citizens to continue supporting law enforcement efforts and assured that the suspects would face diligent prosecution.
