Terror struck Kalanjeni village in Sokoto’s Tangaza LGA on Wednesday as over 30 armed bandits launched a deadly assault, moments after Council Chairman Hon. Isah Harisu Kalanjeni had left the area.

Eyewitnesses said the gunmen arrived on motorcycles, firing into the air and looting livestock after failing to locate their apparent target. Several homes were vandalized, while villagers fled in panic. The chairman’s unplanned departure is believed to have saved his life.

Security forces reportedly arrived late, prompting public outrage and renewed calls for emergency intervention in the insecurity-plagued region.

Police confirmed the attack and ongoing investigations. Many villagers have since fled, with community centers now sheltering the displaced.
