S`East Boxing Championship: We`re hosting to win, Coach says

Enugu State Boxing coach,  Blaise Ude has assured the state of a good outing at the upcoming  two-day 2023 South East Boxing championship scheduled for Friday and Saturday in Enugu.

Ude told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Wednesday in Enugu, that the boxers are ready to win medals at the championship which is organised for the five states in the zone.

He said that the championship is aimed at preparing South East boxers for the upcoming 22nd National Sports Festival (NSF) in Ogun in 2024.

According to him, the championship is organised by Osondu Ogbu who represents the zone at the federal level in conjunction with the Enugu State Ministry for Youths and Sports.

The coach said the competition would feature boxing in all categories for both male and female, and will take place inside the indoor Sports Hall of  the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium, Enugu.

“I have boxers that will compete in all the categories and they are all good to go with the robust training we did within this two weeks.

“Enugu State has been the safest place for this competition at this point in time and I felt  honoured that the state government throws its weight behind it.

“We are expecting the five states of the South East to present their boxers as the competition is not limited to any weight so it is for all weight categories,” Ude said.

Ude urged well-meaning Nigerians to emulate Ogbu by giving back to the society and help to take youths off the street and reduce social vises.

He said that the boxers would always be grateful to the chairman for ensuring that they have activities to mark the end of the year. (NAN
