RWANDA AMBASSADOR TO NIGERIA HOSTS AMB. TIMOTHY NWACHUKWU, SDGS COUNCIL

The Rwanda Ambassador to Nigeria, His Excellency Amb. Christophe Bazivamo, recently hosted a high-level discussion session with SDGs Ambassador Timothy Nwachukwu, the National Coordinator, Sustainable Development Goals- National Students Council, Office of the Senior Special Assistant to the President of Nigeria on Students Engagement (SDGs- NSC- OSSAP-SE), at the Rwanda High Commission in Abuja.
The meeting centered around exploring potential areas of collaboration and mutual benefit between Rwanda and Nigeria, with a focus on education, cultural exchange, agriculture, trade and investment opportunities towards achieving the United Nations Sustainable development goals. The two leaders acknowledged the immense untapped potential that exists between the two African nations and expressed commitment to strengthening bilateral ties.
Ambassador Nwachukwu commended Rwanda for its remarkable progress in achieving the SDGs, citing the country’s success story as an inspiration to other African nations. He emphasized that Nigeria can learn from Rwanda’s experience in areas such as digitalization, infrastructure development and human capital development.
On education, the SDGs Council Chairman proposed exchanges programs for students, teachers and researchers between Rwandan and Nigerian universities. He stressed the importance of sharing knowledge and best practices to enhance human capital development.
In the realm of culture, Ambassador Nwachukwu suggested organizing cultural festivals, art exhibitions and performances to promote people-to-people diplomacy. He believes that cultural exchange can foster greater understanding and cooperation between the two nations.
Ambassador Christophe Bazivamo briefed the SDGs Council on Rwanda’s impressive strides in agriculture, citing the country’s self-sufficiency in food production. He proposed partnerships in areas such as irrigation, mechanized farming and post-harvest management to enhance agricultural productivity in Nigeria.
On trade and investment, both leaders agreed that Rwanda and Nigeria can explore opportunities in sectors such as tourism, manufacturing, infrastructure development and digital economy. Ambassador Christophe Bazivamo encouraged Nigerian investors to take advantage of the conducive business environment in Rwanda.
The Rwanda envoy further shared the Rwanda Experience in increasing education enrollment, the policies of the government aimed at empowering Rwanda women and youths among several others.
The meeting ended with a resolve to follow up on the proposed collaboration areas, with a view to translating them into concrete actions and projects that can benefit both Rwanda and Nigeria. Ambassador Nwachukwu and Ambassador Christophe Bazivamo agreed to maintain regular communication and to convene a follow-up meeting in due course.
The high-level discussion between the Rwanda Ambassador and the SDGs Council National Coordinator is a significant step towards strengthening diplomatic relations and exploring development opportunities between Rwanda and Nigeria. It demonstrates the commitment of both countries to deepening cooperation and collaboration for mutual benefit and for the attainment of the SDGs in Africa.
