Mixed reactions have trailed the ejection of five 100 level Mass Communication students of Nnamdi Azikiwe University Awka.
The students were axed from the classroom by lecturer, Dr Emeka Odogwu, for a perceived disobedience and untoward attitude.
The five students (names withheld) were asked out of the classroom without any explanation from the lecturer.
Disappointed by the lackadaisical attitude of the students to the order, Dr Odogwu called back the students after which he explained that he made the order to ascertain their reactions.
“I wanted to test your reaction and you all failed the test. None of you can question the reason for the order even when you knew it was not right.
“As journalists, you are expected to help to fight injustice in the society. Do not keep silent in the face of oppression,” he encouraged them.
Despite the explanation, students viewed the directive differently.
While some students condemned the lecturer’s approach, others praised him for his creative approach to teaching.
