Ranching: Igbo Youths commend Gov. Mbah

The representatives of various Igbo youths cut across Civil Society Groups,Religeous organisations, Student Unions, and other stakeholders have described ranching as a panacea to curtailing farmers versus herdsmen crises prevalent in Igbo land and urged the Governors of the Southeast zone to embrace the system.

They gave commendations to the Enugu state governor, Dr Peter Mbah for blazing the trail in that direction and called on every Igbo political stakeholder to join the bandwagon in propagating the trend.

The Igbo Youths gave the commendation at their National convention held at Nike Lake Hotel Enugu on Friday, May 24th, which lasted till evening.

Briefing news men in Enugu on Saturday morning, at Ohanaeze National Secretariat,stationed at No 7 Ekulu road,GRA,Enugu,the acting National Youth leade,Chukwuma Okpalaezeukwu said they are advocating for Ranching as a strategy to curtail the rate of incessant destruction of farms lands owned by our peasant farmers allegedly by wandering Fulani hersdsmen and their cattles。

Part of the Communique reads,”The continued menace of the atrocities of the Fulani terrorist herdsmen in Igbo land should be collectively curbed by the Igbo governors and other political office holders with a simultaneous aggressive approach to ranching across the region.

“These ranching project should be done with full engagement and participation of stakeholders from the Igbo communities in working out the legislative frame work to ensure a generally acceptable master plan.

“We commend the Enugu state governor,Dr Peter Ndubuisi Mbah for pioneering the enactment of progressive ranching laws in the state and we urge other state governors especially those of the South East zone to imbibe the trend”.

The Igbo Youths also made a clarion call to the South East Governors to involve the youths in securing the zone as well to imbibe training Igbo youths in skills acquisition as an investment.

The communique further states,”The Igbo age-long wealth transfer pattetn of “Igba Boy”apprenticeship should be re-awakened.The globally acclaimed business development model should be formalised in our education systems and supported by serious government interest free loans”.

The Igbo youths also made a passionate appeal to President Tinubu for unconditional release of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, the IPOB leader from incarceration,stating that his release will end the ‘Monday sit-at-home in the South East zone and reducing the level of insecurity in the zone.

They pleaded,”The prevailing insecurity and sit-at-home in Igbo land can be curtailed by the release of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu.We therefore demand a political and kinetic solution that will fast track the release of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu and the deproscription of IPOB as a terrorist organization”.
