Powerful 7.7-Magnitude Earthquake Strikes Myanmar, Shakes Thailand

A 7.7-magnitude earthquake struck Myanmar on Friday, causing buildings to sway and panic in neighboring Thailand. The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) reported that the quake had a shallow depth of 10km, with its epicenter near Mandalay, about 50km east of Monywa.
In Bangkok, located 1,400km away, startled residents fled high-rise buildings as the tremor shook the city, even causing water to spill from rooftop pools. Despite the strong impact, no immediate reports of casualties or damage have emerged from Myanmar, which remains in turmoil following a 2021 coup.
