Power Outage Hits Presidential Villa as Vandals Steal TCN Cable

The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has confirmed a significant power outage affecting parts of the Presidential Villa and 60% of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, due to the theft of a 132-kilovolt underground cable. In a statement issued on Friday, TCN spokesperson Ndidi Mbah revealed that vandals targeted the Millennium Park area, stealing 40 meters of 1×500 mm² XLPE conductors from two 132kV transmission lines. These cables transport bulk electricity to the Central Area Transmission Substation, which supplies power to various districts, including Maitama, Wuse, Jabi, Life Camp, Asokoro, Utako, Mabushi, and the Presidential Villa. TCN engineers have been dispatched to the site to repair the damage. The development has exacerbated ongoing power supply issues, with AEDC earlier attributing recent outages to faulty lines between Katampe and the Central Area Transmission Station.
