PRESS STATEMENT

The attention of the South-East Zonal Working Committee (SE ZWC) of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has been drawn to the subsisting public expressions of concern by some stakeholders of our party in Anambra state, on the issue of decamping of members from Anambra PDP to other parties and/or re-joining of members from other parties to Anambra PDP, following the conclusion of the November 06, 2021, Anambra governorship election.

The SE ZWC notes and recognizes the inalienable right of man to freedom of association.

Section 40 of the 1999 constitution (as amended) of the Federal the Republic of Nigeria explicitly, recognizes the right of an individual to peaceful assembly and association, including the right to belong to any political party.

SE ZWC notes that PDP, cognizant of these, and recognizing the dynamic nature of political mobility, in the party’s constitution (as amended), clearly stipulates our party’s membership administration process.

With respect to these, SE ZWC notes the following relevant sections of the PDP constitution: Admission into Membership – Section 8(5) -; Procedure for Rejoining – section 8(8) -; Loss of membership – section 8(16) – and Status of Returnee Members – Section 8(17).

SE ZWC acknowledges that Anambra PDP is blessed to have leaders and stakeholders, who are well experienced and vast in political party administration and as such, encourage stakeholders to rest assured that there is no cause for alarm regarding this current concern on political mobility of individuals.
