Plateau, Benue Killings: FG Urged to Overhaul Security System

The International Human Rights Commission (IHRC) has urged the Nigerian government to urgently reform the country’s security architecture amid rising violence in Plateau and Benue States.
Duru Hezekiah, Head of the IHRC Diplomatic Mission in Nigeria, condemned the ongoing killings, warning of severe human rights violations and humanitarian crises. He emphasized the need for immediate, technology-driven solutions to tackle insecurity and strengthen national safety systems.
The IHRC called for stronger security measures, effective oversight, and swift prosecution of perpetrators, stressing that protecting citizens’ lives and property must be the government’s top priority.
Hezekiah noted that while terrorism and banditry persist in the North-East and North-West, the threat of kidnapping now spans across much of the country.
