Pensioners Decry Non-Implementation of N32,000 Increase

The Nigeria Union of Pensioners (South-West Zone) has lamented the failure of most state governments to implement the N32,000 pension increase directed by President Bola Tinubu in September 2024.
At a zonal meeting in Abeokuta on Thursday, the union’s Public Relations Officer, Dr. Olusegun Abatan, noted that among the six South-West states, only Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has partially implemented the directive, increasing pensions by N17,500.
Abatan urged other state governments to follow Oyo’s example and prioritize pensioners’ welfare, adding that even the Federal Government has yet to fully implement the directive.
He also appealed for intervention to help pensioners banking with the failed Heritage Bank, who have been unable to access their funds for over a year and a half.
