Patent Medicine Dealers Urged To Maintain Professionalism

Patent and Proprietary Medicine Vendors PPMV, have been charged to maintain the core values of professionalism integrity which has made it a critical stakeholders in the health sector in Nigeria.
They have been called upon to always upgrade their knowledge of practice in order to remain relevant especially in the hinterlands .

A health consultant and Cordinator logistics and Supply Chain, School of Pharmacy, Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, Doctor Sunday Nduka gave the advice while making presentations at a one day workshop for PPMVs in Anambra state.

The Event which was organised by one of the leading Healthcare providers in the state, Right Health Pharmaceuticals Limited took place at De Geo Gold Hotels Awka .
Managing Director of Right Health Pharmaceuticals LTD and member representing Anambra East constituency in the state House of Assembly, Mr Obinna Emenaka used the medium to enjoin Patent Medicine Dealers to always embrace all the Covid -19 safety protocols as they come in contact with different patients daily.
Right Health Pharmaceuticals limited is a company incorporated in Nigeria and a sister company to Emeneka Pharm Chem. Limited as well as licensed by the pharmacists Council of Nigeria to engage in the distribution and sales of all types of pharmaceutical products.

This, Mr. Obinna Emeneka said prompted the workshop which was anchored on its core values of professionalism integrity, customer or entertain, staff development, Empathy and care.
The law maker who represents Anambra East constituency in the State House of Assembly described Patent medicine dealers as critical stakeholders especially at the remote areas where professional health workers hardly reach.
Mr Emeneka therefore enjoined them to always take inventory of cells and drugs procured and also ensure that they only buy from credible outlets where durability is granted.
Delivering a paper titled, “the Roles of PPMVSs in Improving Quality and Basic Health Care Services in Nigeria”, the Coordinator, Logistics and Supply Chain NAU, Awka , Doctor Sunday Nduka said published studies showed that between 8 to 55 percent of sick children under the age of five obtained care from Patent Medicine dealers.
This he attributed to their closeness to the people and how they are important in ensuring uninterrupted supply chain of drugs.
Doctor Nduka said PPMVs must strive to remain relevant in order to help in the realization of universal health coverage through effective procurement of drugs from the right place.
One of the Patent and proprietary Medicine Vendors, Mr. Chikwado Ighogu who is also Chairman PPMVs in Awka South Local Government Area commended Right Health Pharmacy for enriching their knowledge pledging to always adhere to rules guiding their practice.
Two other participants, Mrs. Edith Chukwuma and Mrs. Favour Obijuru described the workshop as a step in the right direction and corroborated that Right Health Pharmacy was a place to procure genuine drugs.
In a remark, the wife of the law maker and one of the Directors of Right Health Pharmacy, Pharmacist Esther Emeneka assured that customers will always be satisfied as the outlet is driven by highly motivated staff supported by technology and partnership with drugs manufacturing companies.
