The Super Falcons of Nigeria will begin their pursuit of a medal at the 2024 Olympic Games as they take on Brazil in their opening Group C match on Thursday (today).

The match will be held at the Matmut Atlantique Stadium in Bordeaux, with kick-off scheduled for 6 pm.

This marks the Super Falcons’ return to the Olympics after a 16-year hiatus.

Tonight’s game will be the third encounter between Nigeria and Brazil. Brazil claimed victory in their previous two meetings, winning 4-3 at the 1991 FIFA Women’s World Cup and 3-1 at the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games.

Brazil will be led by the iconic Marta, who has an impressive record of 118 goals in 183 appearances for the Samba Girls.

In addition to Brazil, the Super Falcons will face current world champions Spain and former world champions Japan in the same group.

Randy Waldrum’s team enters the tournament after a narrow 1-0 loss to Canada in their only friendly match before the Olympics.
