Ojukwu Varsity Launches Five-year Climate Action To Take Back Environment, Beautify Campus.

Anambra State-owned Chukwuemeka Odumegwu-Ojukwu University (COOU) is set to launch the institution’s Five-Year Strategic Roadmap for Tree Planting and Climate Action 2024 – 2029 at its Igbariam Campus holding on wednesday 17th day of july 2024
The Vice Chancellor of COOU, Professor Kate Omenugha who disclosed this in her office today pointed out that the launch kick-starts the ambitious planting of one million trees in the Campus and environs.
Omenugha pointed out that the tree- planting exercise in COOU in the next Five years will go a long way to provide wind breaker and canopy in the institution.

She noted that the programme is aimed to tackle scorching heat, beautify the campus, combat climate change, improve air quality, advance climate literacy and promote green economy.
The Vice Chancellor also revealed that the tree planting and climate action campaign will receive a further boost by the partnership support of the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) and several other stakeholders in both private and government establishments in ensuring that there is reversal of climate change through tree planting,
Omenugha said the actualization of the tree planting exercise is anchored on
“One Tree, One Staff, One Tree, One Student”.
The Vice Chancellor noted that the COOU under her administrative agenda of Value, Viability, and Visibility is committed to creating sustainable, responsible, and actionable steps toward a green, healthier, and eco-friendly environment in Igbariam and Uli campuses respectively
She urged the members of the public to embark on tree planting for a greener world tomorrow in order to make making COOU, Anambra, Nigeria, and the planet greener, healthier, and more beautiful.
She appreciated Governor Chukwuma Soludo for donating 100,000 trees to the institution to boost the target, foster eco-friendly environment in the institution, and sustain a clean and liveable environment.
Omenugha observed that the governor’s donation is unprecedented since the establishment of COOU, the One Million tree planting campaign being embarked by the institution was inspired by Governor Soludo in line with the administration’s . Dubai – Taiwan inspired smart city development.
