Ohanaeze youths condemn attack on Aguata local gov’t, calls for peace

The Youth Wing of Ohanaeze Ndigbo has condemned attack on Aguata local government council, in Anambra state by yet to be acertained hoodlums. 

The group described the ugly incident as unfortunate and great disservice to the Southeast region and brutal destruction against collective heritage of the people of the area.

In a statement by its National Publicity Secretary, Mazi Chika Adiele, the group called on armed youths to hearken to calls for peace by Southeast leaders and ceasefire to await the outcome of the Truth, Justice and Peace Committee set up by the state governor, Prof Chukwuma Soludo.

It restated its relentless efforts in pursuit of peaceful atmosphere for the people of theregion, as no meaningful development could be achieved amidst killings and destructions of property.

The statement reads, “Our attention has been drawn over the attack on Aguata local government council, in Anambra state by yet to be acertained hoodlums. This is unfortunately a great disservice to Ala IGBO and a brutal destruction against our collective heritage.

“We are miffed by this sad news, especially coming at the hills of Prof Chukwuma Soludo’s Peace and Security parley held at Awka, where he and other well respected leaders brainstormed in a bid to finding a lasting solution to security challenges occasioned by the injustices metted against Ndigbo, and on the other hand the continued incarceration of our son and brother Mazi Nnamdi Kanu.

“It is a well known fact that Ohanaeze Ndigbo worldwide Youth Wing is at the forefront in canvassing for the unconditional release of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, and many other Igbo youths languishing at different dungeons across the country. 

“We are relentless in our pursuit for a peaceful atmosphere for our people, as we believe that no meaningful development can take place when killings and willful destruction are the order of the day.

“We must spare a thought and acknowledge the genuine efforts by the executive governor of Anambra state in the person of Prof Chukwuma Soludo and other leaders of thoughts towards reversing these negative trajectories that tend to arrest our developmental strides.

“Therefore, we call on all armed youths to hearken to calls for peace by Southeast Leaders and ceasefire to await the outcome of the Truth, Justice and Peace Committee set up by the governor of Anambra State.”
