Obi of Onitsha, others decry influx of Almajiri into South-East

The Obi of Onitsha, Igwe Nnaemeka Achebe and other monarchs in Anambra State, have condemned the influx of Almajiri into the South-East.

They implored the governors of the geopolitical zone to take a stand to curtail the trend.

Rising from an executive meeting, the monarchs called for carefulness by all at a time of this pandemic.

Their communique was signed by Igwe Achebe as chairman, his deputies, the traditional ruler of Okpuno, Igwe Sunday Okafor, and the monarch of Okakwu Odekpe, Igwe Chuma Onyia.

It read, “We have serious concern that many of the  Almajirai may have been infected with coronavirus disease, before sending them to this place.

“We implored the governors in the zone  to ensure that the Almajiri do not enter the state since, they would not fit into the state’s economic, social and cultural environment.”

They urged the governors not to relent in their fight against the menace of some herdsmen.

They hailed the Anambra State Governor, Willie Obiano,  for his methodology in the fight against COVID-19.
