Nnamdi Azikiwe University Students emerge Champions in Chinese competition

Students of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, NAU, have emerged Nigerian champions in this year’s CCECC Cup for Chinese Speech Competition.

Nnamdi Azikiwe University students won all the 6 awards set by the competition panelists—the Champion, the 2 second places, and the 3 third places.

The competition was part of activities to commemorate the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relationship between China and Nigerian, the Chinese Embassy, CCECC and the Chinese Cultural Centre in Abuja.

These groups co-held a competition on Chinese speech via Zoom on December 18, 2020.

After the competition, Mr. DIKE PAUL CHINEDU, a second-year student of the Chinese Studies department of Unizik emerged national champion in the competition.

This was disclosed to the Vice Chancellor, Prof Charles Okechukwu Esimone by the Director, Confucius Institute Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, Job Yu.

According to a statement by the Acting PRO, Chika Eneh 2020 competition was outstanding for students of Unizik.

The statement read in part: ‘Students from Nnamdi Azikiwe University Awka,(NAU) have emerged Nigerian champions in this year’s CCECC Cup for Chinese Speech Competition.

” To commemorate the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relationship between China and Nigerian, the Chinese Embassy, CCECC and the Chinese Cultural Centre in Abuja co-held a competition on Chinese speech via Zoom on December 18, 2020.

“Mr. DIKE PAUL CHINEDU, a second-year student of the Chinese Studies department of our great University, emerged national champion in the competition.

“Moreover, our CI dominated the competition by winning the most prizes in the competition.

’22 participants selected from our CI, the CI at Unilag and other Chinese Teaching Points affiliated to the Chinese Embassy took part in the competition. The 7 participants selected from our CI won all the 6 awards set by the competition panelists—the Champion, the 2 second places, and the 3 third places.

“Ms. AGBO VICTORIA and Ms. CHINWEZE IFEYINWA JENNIFER jointly won the second place, while Ms. ONYEKERE NANCY NGOZI, Ms. OGWE UDOKA SOPHIA, and Mr. CHIDOZIE AFIOMAH jointly won the third place. Each of these winners will go home with either a ThinkPad laptop or a Huwei smartphone.

The statement.concluded: “Mr DIKE PAUL CHINEDU, the champion, has become the first student from the Chinese Studies department to challenge the dominance of CI HSK students who have astounded the world with their exploits in diverse areas and competitions. Without a shadow of doubt, this great breakthrough and achievement by the Chinese Studies department have demonstrated the excellence and competitiveness of Chinese language teaching in Nigeria”.
