Nigeria Shines at the 2024 CAF Awards with Lookman, Nnadozie Leading the Charge. Super Falcons Named Women’s Team of the Year, Several Stars Selected for CAF Best XI

The National Sports Commission (NSC) has congratulated Nigeria’s football stars, Ademola Lookman and Chiamaka Nnadozie, as well as the Super Falcons, for their outstanding achievements at the 2024 CAF Awards held in Marrakech, Morocco, on Monday evening. The event, marked by elegance and celebration, saw Nigerian footballers honored for their remarkable performances on the continental stage, earning individual and team accolades that underscored Nigeria’s growing dominance in African football. Mallam Shehu Dikko, Chairman of the NSC, commended the winners, noting that their success reflects Nigeria’s progress in the sport. “I extend my congratulations to all our winners, particularly Ademola Lookman and Chiamaka Nnadozie,” he said. “These awards are a result of the hard work of many individuals and demonstrate the revival of Nigerian sports, inspiring us to reach even greater heights.” Lookman and Nnadozie Steal the Show Super Eagles forward Ademola Lookman claimed the prestigious CAF Player of the Year award, succeeding his fellow Nigerian, Victor Osimhen, who won the honor in 2023. Lookman’s standout 2023 season included leading Nigeria to the Africa Cup of Nations final and helping Atalanta lift the Europa League title, scoring a historic hat-trick in the final against Bayer Leverkusen. On the women’s side, Super Falcons goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie retained her title as CAF Women’s Goalkeeper of the Year for the second consecutive year. Over 28 matches in 2024, Nnadozie kept 10 clean sheets, further solidifying her status as one of the top shot-stoppers in women’s football. Super Falcons’ Continued Dominance Nigeria’s Super Falcons were once again named Women’s National Team of the Year, a testament to their continued dominance in African women’s football. In addition to these accolades, several Nigerian stars were named to CAF’s prestigious Best XI of the Year. In the men’s category, Victor Osimhen and Ademola Lookman were selected, while the women’s XI featured Rasheedat Ajibade, Asisat Oshoala, Osinachi Ohale, and Michelle Alozie.
