At the World Economic Forum summit in Davos, Nigeria’s Foreign Affairs Minister, Yusuf Maitama Tuggar, advocated for Africa’s inclusion in the UN Security Council, highlighting Nigeria’s qualifications to represent the continent. Tuggar criticized Africa’s exclusion, noting that 60% of the Council’s resolutions impact Africa. He also emphasized Nigeria’s strategic role in global governance, citing its history of supporting African liberation, soft power through technical aid, and peaceful relations with neighbors. Tuggar made a case for Nigeria’s G20 membership, stressing its capacity to champion Africa’s interests, including economic reforms and technology transfer commitments. The panel discussion, which included other African leaders, underscored Africa’s growing role in global decision-making. Tuggar called on South Africa to support Nigeria’s aspirations for greater representation.
