Nigeria at 62: Anambra Speaker calls for equitable distribution of nation’s resources

The Speaker of the Anambra State House of Assembly, Dr Uche Okafor, has urged the Federal Government to ensure equitable distribution of the nation’s resources to promote unity and peace.
Okafor, in his independence message, on Saturday in Awka said that such equitable distribution among the six geopolitical zones would give every citizen a sense of belonging in the affairs of the nation.
According to him, the independence anniversary should serve as a wake-up call for the government to find ways to uphold the visions of the country’s founding fathers.
“The contributions of Nigeria’s foremost political leaders and those who fought for Nigeria’s independence towards the corporate existence of the country were selfless and visionary.
“We need to continue to promote that corporate existence by ensuring unity and peace through equitable distribution of our country’s resources.
“The nation’s ruling political class should prioritise the enthronement of peace and progress by formulating policies and programmes that will benefit and unite the masses.
“As Nigeria marks her 62nd independence anniversary this day, I believe that God is capable of restoring the image, unity, peace and economy of the country, ” he said.
The Speaker urged Nigerians to continue to pray for the social, political and economic development of the country.
He also urge politicians and residents to appreciate and support Gov. Chukwuma Soludo’s developmental efforts in the state. (NAN)
