Network Blackout Cripples Kogi as Govt, Telecoms Clash Over Revenue

Residents of Kogi State are reeling from severe network disruptions following a revenue dispute between the state government and telecom operators over alleged tax leakages.
The crisis escalated on April 22 when the government shut down all MTN and some GLO base stations, crippling businesses, banking services, and PoS transactions. Many operators have shut down, demanding cash-only payments as digital channels fail.
The silence from both the telecoms and state agencies has worsened public frustration, with citizens lamenting the economic and security risks.
Meanwhile, power outages and water scarcity persist across Lokoja, as electricity supply dwindles and the collapsed Greater Lokoja Water Works remains unfixed. Governor Ododo has been absent for over 10 days, fueling concerns over leadership and governance amid the crisis.
