NEC Defers State Police Talks Amid Rising Insecurity

The National Economic Council on Thursday postponed discussions on state police to its next meeting, despite the recent surge in killings across several states.

Bayelsa State Governor, Douye Diri, said the matter was on the agenda but couldn’t be discussed due to time constraints.

This comes as the Nigerian Governors’ Forum (NGF) announced plans to recruit more security personnel and adopt tech-driven solutions to address insecurity. A sub-committee has been set up to work with security agencies on immediate strategies.

Governors also observed a minute of silence for victims of recent attacks in Plateau, Benue, Borno, and Enugu states.

Meanwhile, Kaduna Governor Uba Sani reiterated the need for state policing, noting that constitutional limitations hinder governors’ ability to tackle insecurity effectively.
