MTN Foundation awards 4,212 scholarships in 12 years — Director

The MTN Foundation has awarded over N3 billion in scholarships to no fewer than  4,212 students in the country over the past 12 years.

This was stated on Friday by the MTN foundation Director, Mr Dennis Okoro, at the 2021 MTN Scholarship Award and Induction ceremony in Lagos.

He added that this year, the foundation had awarded scholarships to 370 students in various tertiary institutions.

He said the recipients included 300 Science and Technology students in tertiary institutions, 60  blind students in any discipline and 10 best performing students in UTME examinations.

The director congratulated the beneficiaries and the new MNT Alumni and encouraged them to create future for their dreams by being resolute and committed to their visions

“Today is  celebration of excellence  exemplified by these  exceptional young men and women. You must never grow weary of chasing excellence,” he said.

Okoro however said the platform had been encouraging excellence and ensuring some of the nation’s most brilliant minds maximise their potential.

The Commissioner for Education, Lagos State Ministry of Education, Mrs Folashade Adefisayo, said the present administration’s investment in the education sector had yielded positive results.

Adefisayo who was represented by Director, Science and Technology Lagos State Ministry of Education, Grace  Akinfoyewa, appreciated the foundation for what she described as its impactful Corporate Social Responsibility  ( CRS) projects, especially in the state.

“Indeed this laudable initiative of awarding scholarships to young Nigerians is highly commendable for the drivable  opportunities and in aid of pursuits of academic excellence for science and physically challenged students.

“ In our quest to promote STEAM Education, the government has made provision of ICT facilities and e- learning applications in most of our schools, continuously capacity building and training for our teachers and schools administrators  for effective service delivery, “ she said.
