MTN, Airtel Partner to Share Network Infrastructure in Nigeria, Uganda

MTN Group and Airtel Africa have signed a network infrastructure-sharing agreement in Nigeria and Uganda to expand mobile connectivity, especially in underserved areas.
Announced on Wednesday, the partnership aims to optimize costs and enhance services through Radio Access Network and fibre infrastructure sharing, including potential new fibre construction.
MTN Group CEO Ralph Mupita emphasized the growing demand for digital services and the need for efficient resource-sharing. Airtel Africa CEO Sunil Taldar highlighted the benefits of reducing infrastructure duplication while improving digital and financial inclusion.
Both telecom giants, which dominate Nigeria’s telecom market, are also considering similar agreements in Congo-Brazzaville, Rwanda, and Zambia.
