The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Alhaji Mohammed Idris, has guaranteed Nigerians that the Abuja-Kaduna-Kano dual carriageway rehabilitation will be finished within 14 months. During the inauguration of the road’s Section 1 rehabilitation, covering the Abuja-Kaduna stretch, Idris reaffirmed the government’s commitment to meeting the timeline. “President Bola Tinubu is fully committed to ensuring this road is completed within the record time of 14 months,” the minister said. The project is divided into three segments: Section 1 (Abuja to Kaduna), Section 2 (Kaduna to Zaria), and Section 3 (Zaria to Kano). Idris explained that this segmentation is designed to accelerate construction and maintain steady progress. “The government terminated the previous contractor’s agreement, which proposed a three-year completion time, and insisted on a 14-month delivery period,” he noted. Highlighting the project’s significance, Idris emphasized the administration’s determination to deliver, stating that President Tinubu has given a direct mandate, with the National Assembly’s full support. Minister of Works, Mr. David Umahi, has been instrumental in resolving past issues that delayed progress, paving the way for the project to proceed efficiently. “With all efforts aligned, within 14 months, a brand-new road from Abuja to Kano will be completed,” Idris assured. The rehabilitation involves a comprehensive overhaul, including removing and recycling the current surface, embankment filling, reinforced concrete drains, median barriers, hydraulic structures, and a 200-mm thick continuously reinforced concrete pavement (CRCP) for the carriageway and shoulders.
