Metro Times reporter survives gunmen attack in Anambra

A Metro Times reporter based in Anambra, Solomon Musa was attacked allegedly by hoodlums at Isu-Aniocha, Awka North Local Government Area.

Musa was attacked on February 5, when Musa went to deliver a documentary tape in the community.

Narrating his ordeal, Musa said the hoodlums appeared from different directions with weapons and started shooting in the air. One of them placed a pistol on his forehead then began beating him up. One of the hoodlums seized his phone and shattered it on the floor then confiscated all his media gadgets.

His vehicle was also vandalised by the gunmen as he pleaded for his life. He informed them that he came to the area for a documentary.

The gunmen seized his Mark Laptop Apple HP laptop, wrist watch, international passports, National ID card, car battery, Designer eye glasses, Canon Camera 6D Mark II, Bank ATM cards, one thousand US dollar note, driver license as well as other documents.

The reporter who luckily survived the attack with injuries was rushed to the hospital for medical treatment.

However, when the incidence was reported to the Anambra State Police Command, Mr Tochukwu Ikenga, the Police Public Relations Officer told Metro Times that they were incharge of the situation.

Meanwhile, 48 hours after the incident, the Youth Chairman in the area when contacted facilitated the release of Metro Times reporter’s Media gadgets including his Mark Laptop, Apple HP Laptop, HP Laptop, NOTE dropout computer tablet, Vivo Android phone, Students ID card, Bank ATM cards and Business card.

The Nigerian Army lead by Captain Philip Onibon, also later helped the Reporter in the recovery his Toyota Corolla 2007 in the attack scene.

Metro Times therefore condemned this mindless violation of press freedom
meted by gunmen on its reporter while carrying out his legitimate duty in Anambra State.
