It was previously reported that the senator, who was allegedly wanted for culpable homicide, ended the siege on his house after he surrendered to the police on Friday, January 4.
The police claimed Melaye and others attacked police personnel, shot and wounded SGT Danjuma Saliu on stop and search duty along Aiyetoro Gbede, Mopa Road in Kogi state
Meanwhile it was earlier earlier reported that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kogi state called on the Nigeria Police Force to immediately release the senator representing Kogi West senatorial district, Dino Melaye.
The party during an emergency meeting held at the Iyah-Gbede residence of General David Jemibewon (rtd.) described the detention of Melaye as an “unabated intimidation”.
The PDP in a statement signed by the chairman of the Kogi West, Taiwo Kola-Ojo, said Melaye would be returned to the Senate whether he campaigns or not.
