A human rights advocacy group, Avocats Sans Frontieres France, also known as, Lawyers without Borders, says it has handled 150 cases of torture in Enugu State.

The ProCAT Case Law Manager, Mrs Edugie Amihere, disclosed this during an advocacy visit to the Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Dr Kingsley Udeh, in Enugu on Thursday.

Amihere said that the cases were sponsored by the United Nations (UN) voluntary fund for victims of torture.

According to her, the project, which started in Enugu in 2014, is also ongoing in Lagos, Imo, Kaduna and Ogun states.

Amihere said that in the course of the project, the group had organised online trainings for lawyers, security agents and journalists on acts constituting human rights violation as well as how to report and protect the victims.

She enumerated the challenges currently facing the group to include: timely issuance of nolle, lack of medical officers and the need to divide lawyers into two categories – those to write legal opinions and the ones that should go to courts.
