Lagos Taskforce Arrests 27 for Alleged Street Begging

Operatives from the Lagos State Environmental Taskforce have detained 27 individuals for the alleged unlawful act of street begging. Mr. Tokunbo Wahab, the State Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, confirmed the arrests in a post shared on his X handle

@tokunbo_wahab on Wednesday. Wahab stated that the operation took place on Tuesday, adding, “The task force conducted a special operation targeting individuals causing public disturbances throughout the metropolis.” The operation led to the apprehension of 27 people, including 15 minors, who were found engaging in street begging in the midst of traffic jams. Key areas raided included Awolowo Way to Falomo Roundabout, Ikoyi, and Ozumba Mbadiwe Avenue along Lekki Road. “This effort aims to remove destitute individuals from these locations,” Wahab explained. The commissioner added that all those arrested will be transferred to the relevant government facilities in accordance with the law
