Two nuns from the Sisters of the Immaculate Heart of Mary of Onitsha, Anambra State, have been released after spending six days in captivity. The victims, Sister Vincentia Nwankwo and Sister Grace Okoli, were freed unharmed, according to a statement issued by the Secretary General of the congregation, Sister Maria Ikeotuonye, on Monday in Onitsha. The statement expressed gratitude, saying: “I bring to your notice in joy that our dear Sisters Vincentia Nwankwo and Grace Okoli, who were kidnapped on the evening of Jan. 7, 2025, have been released unconditionally and are in good health. We thank God and everyone for their prayers and support during these uncertain times. May God be forever praised through Mary, our Mother.” The Anambra Police Command spokesman, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, confirmed awareness of the news but noted ongoing efforts to verify the details and obtain a report from the nuns. “As soon as we establish contact with the congregation and the sisters, we will provide an authoritative update on the incident,” Ikenga said.
