IPOB: Freedom Fighting Is My Right, Not Terrorism – Kanu Tells Court

Leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, has asserted that his agitation for the independence of the South East, South South, and parts of Benue and Kogi is a constitutional right, not terrorism.
In a statement made to the Department of State Services (DSS) on October 15, 2015, and admitted in court on Tuesday, Kanu maintained that freedom fighting is legal globally, including in Nigeria. He also claimed he was interrogated without legal representation and denied any involvement in violence.
The statement, read in open court by a DSS operative serving as a prosecution witness, was presented alongside video recordings of the interrogation. Both were admitted as exhibits by Justice James Omotosho.
Additionally, four suitcases containing Kanu’s personal items, including Biafra radio equipment allegedly found at his hotel during arrest, were also admitted as evidence. Kanu confirmed in the video that he founded Radio Biafra in London but did not register it with Nigeria’s broadcasting commission, stating it wasn’t necessary.
