Imo allots FG’s relief materials to 2022 flood victims

Gov. Hope Uzodimma of Imo, on Tuesday, launched the distribution of relief materials to victims of the 2022 flood disaster in some parts of the state. The items were donated to the state under the Federal Government’s 2023 Special National Economic and Livelihood Interventions for the victims of the 2022 flood and vulnerable persons in the state. In a speech at the event in Owerri, Uzodimma thanked the Federal Government for the several interventions to support the victims in Imo and other parts of the country.

He recalled that the disaster destroyed people’s homes and farms, leaving many victims stranded. He described the interventions to cushion the effects of the menace on the people as “a wonderful idea”. The governor charged those involved in the allocation and distribution of the items to ensure that only the 2022 victims benefitted from the gesture. He urged the security agencies to support NEMA and SEMA to ensure that no excuses were given for failure in the distribution process.

Earlier, the NEMA Director-General, Mr Mustapha Ahmed, said that “the Special National Economic Interventions are for the vulnerable and people most affected in the 2022 flood disaster”. Ahmed, represented by an Assistant Director, Planning (GIS Unit) of NEMA, Mr Ajiboye Olatunde, appealed to the beneficiaries to put the items to proper use and resist the temptation to sell them. The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the items included food stuffs, sewing machines, water pumps, rice seedlings, liquid fertilizers and pesticides, among others.
