Some prominent politicians of Igbo extraction on Saturday described the death of Sen. Ifeanyi Ubah, 52, as a colossal loss of an illustrious game changer to the Igbos.

They said this in separate telephone interviews with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Saturday in Lagos.

NAN reports that Ubah, who was the Chief Executive Officer of Capital Oil, represented Anambra South Zonal Constituency.

The APC stalwart  reportedly died in London.

In his reaction, Anambra born Founder of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), Dr Boniface Aniebonam, said the death was a huge blow not only to Igboland but  to Nigeria and humanity.

“This death is terrible. Such a young man full of love for humanity. He was one of the sons we are proud of in Igboland but it is unfortunate and we cannot fight God,” Aniebonam said.

Also speaking, Enugu born Chief Maxi Okwu, a former National Secretary of the Conference Nigeria Political Parties (CNPP), said it was sad that Nigeria and Igboland lost Ubah in his prime.

Okwu, a former APGA chieftain and presidential candidate of the defunct Citizens Popular Party, described Ubah as a game changer.

“The young man had capacity for organisation in politics. He was public spirited and showed a lot of political colour.

“Being unpopular in Anambra then, Ubah won elections in the state. That is to show his capacity.

“It is very very sad and shocking how death happens. He was a business mogul who will be greatly missed,” Okwu said.

Also speaking, Mr Okey Igwe, a chieftain of the APC in Imo State said that the Igbos had indeed lost a rare gem

“Ubah- was a man of many caps. He was an astute politician, dogged in many ways, a philanthropist and a business mogul. So sad to go home in one’s prime,” he said.

Igwe said that Ubah would be sorely missed for his contributions to sports development in Nigeria.

An Anambra-based diaspora business mogul, Chief Nelson Okaro, said: “I am from Anambra and I can tell you that Ubah was one of those who distinguished themselves in service to our people and Nigeria.

“I live in America and I have always believed first in the welfare of the grassroots people. Ubah believed in the same thing beyond politics.

“When it comes to assisting the masses, he does so without biases of party, tribe or religion. He was rare. We pray for the repose of his soul,” he said.
