Ibadan Stampede: 35 Dead, Six in Critical Condition – Police

The Oyo State Police Command has confirmed the recovery of 35 bodies of minors who were victims of the recent stampede in Ibadan. Police Public Relations Officer, SP Osifeso Adewale, stated in a release on Thursday that six minors who were severely injured in the incident are in critical condition and receiving medical treatment. “So far, 35 minors have been confirmed dead, while six others are critically injured and undergoing various medical interventions,” he said. The tragedy occurred during a funfair organized by Prophetess Naomi Shikemi, the former Queen of the Ooni of Ife, at the Islamic High School, Bashorun, Ibadan. The Oyo State Police Command has arrested eight individuals involved in sponsoring the event. Among those detained are Prophetess Naomi Silekunola, Fasasi Abdulahi (Principal of the Islamic High School), and several others including Genesis Christopher, Tanimowo Moruf, Anisolaja Olabode, Idowu Ibrahim, and Abiola Oluwatimilehin.
