Huawei Launches Nigeria’s First Hyperscale Local Cloud

Huawei has launched Nigeria’s first hyperscale local cloud, becoming the first international cloud provider to offer such services in the country. Powered by Tier 3+ data centers, the new cloud ensures ultra-fast services with a latency of just 15 milliseconds, keeping data storage and computing resources within Nigeria. This development benefits local businesses, especially fintech companies, by supporting compliance with strict data protection regulations. The launch event, titled “Leap Now With A Better Cloud,” took place in Lagos on Tuesday. Chris Lu, CEO of Huawei Nigeria, highlighted the company’s commitment to supporting Nigeria’s digital economy and ensuring data sovereignty in line with the Nigeria Data Protection Commission’s goals to limit cross-border data transfer. Roc Bai, Vice President of Huawei Cloud Sub-Saharan Africa, introduced new technologies such as Huawei Cloud Stack 8.5, cloud-native databases, and AI models, emphasizing that local cloud is crucial for digital transformation. Lagos State Deputy Governor Obafemi Hamzat praised the launch, calling it a transformative step for Nigeria’s technological advancement. He encouraged businesses to embrace this innovation, as it enhances data sovereignty and supports growth across Lagos, Nigeria, and Africa.
