Hope Givers Initiative, Stakeholders task leaders on Accountability

An Advocacy group, Hope Givers Initiative, HOG-I, and key stakeholders in Anambra West local governs the area, Anambra state have demanded accountability and transparency from politicians and Leaders in the region.

The demand was made in Umueze Anam during a joint meeting of the group to educate rural dwellers in communities making up the local government on the roles of the lawmakers and importance of quality representation in the region.

Odogwublog.com gathered that the event was planned to accommodate interaction with the member representing Anambra West local government area, Hon Patrick Udoba where the constituency members present key issues troubling their region but be as it may, turned unsuccessful following the absence of the lawmaker from the forum.

Speaking at the workshop, Executive Director, Hope Givers Initiative ( HOG-I) Onyeka Okey- Udegbunam said the event was a dialogue session between the member representing Anambra West and his constituents adding that the essence of the program was to enable the people understand  the role of lawmakers as well as communicate their issues and needs to the honorable members.

Mrs Udegbunam said the event, supported by Christian Aid Nigeria as an organization owns it as a duty to advocate for quality and inclusive governance which according to her will accommodate the people in hard to reach areas of the state.

Earlier, Mrs. Eucharia Anekwe while calling on the citizenry to hold leaders accountable blamed Ethnic loyalty, Partisan Politics, and personal interests as the factors responsible for the failure of legislation in Nigeria.

Speaking to Odogwublog.com the participants held the opinion that leaders representing the constituency do not try enough to alleviate the sufferings of their communities even as others blamed poor representation as to the bane of underdevelopment of the region.

President General of Nzam community, Mr Fidelis Nnazo complained that his community lack access road during rainy season except the use of canoe and speedboats. He even said that the state of the health center in Nzam is horrible as there is only one staff in the hospital calling on the lawmaker to do hasten and do the needful to alleviate the plights of the people.

Nnazo represented by Nwambu Martins said that the community lacks quality representation and that their leaders only visit the community during electioneering season promising community members heaven on earth.

Also, President General of Orumbanasa, Comrade Lawrence Nnacho said that the seminar availed them the opportunity to rub mind and chart ways to get the best out of the lawmakers representing their community

Lawrence stated that  the seminar has laid the foundation to challenge the lawmakers to deliver on public interest by drawing governments attention to the plights of the community adding that the community had expected lawmakers to attract projects to establish the amenities that will improve standard of living of the people of the area.

Similarly, Mr Paul Obiora, the youth leader of Umueze Anam community while speaking to Odogwublog. com said there has never been good representation in Anambra west even as he said that the people that represented the community in the past failed woefully. 

He urged the people to shun bribe and utilize their power to say no to bad representation and leadership stressing that the people must look inwardly to identify who will better their lives and go for him.
