GROUP BLAMES POLLUTION ,CLIMATE CHANGE ON HUMAN ACTIVITIES

The Founder of the Cleaner Neighbourhood Initiative (CNI),Rotarian Gloria Obuekwe, has blamed the exponentially increase in environmental pollution and climate change on human inordinate activities.

Rotarian Obuekwe, who was speaking with Journalists at the recent flag-off ceremony of “All Anambra Communities Plastic Wastes Recovery Challenge 2.0, organized by the Anambra State Ministry of Environment at the Jerome Udoji Secretariat, Awka, regretted that people have continued to abuse and destroy the environment in various ways and manners.

Rotarian Obuekwe, who doubled as the President of the CNI, cited a situation where people build houses without flowers and fell trees without replanting as some of the causes of climate change and increasing environmental pollution with attendant consequences .

The President, who explained that clean environment engenders healthy and better life devoid of all forms of diseasesl,noted that life flourished better when people keep their surroundings clean including desilting water channels in front of their buildings .

He urged the citizenry to join hands with government in the task of ridding Anambra State of all forms of environmental pollution, especially the plastic wastes.

The President described environmental pollution as not only trans- boundary,but a global threat to humanity, noting that its negative effects in one community could have multiplier effects on other communities ,assuring the people that government is doing all within its powers towards reducing the impact of the environmental pollution in various communities across the State.

She added that the reason behind the flagging -off of “All Anambra Communities Plastic Wastes Recovery Challenge 2. 0” was for the people to joins forces with Anambra State Government in the war against plastic pollution with a view to keeping the State clean, better and sustenable .

She explained that the environment is the people’s life and future , pointing out that without clean environment that there would no meaningful development anywhere in the world because according her the environment is the bedrock for any project to thrive in the society.

She pointed out that pollution also kills acquatic animals, while human beings are not equally safe, citing the present outbreak of cholera in Lagos State and other parts of the Country as a clear example, stressing that her Organization is committed towards sensitizing the people to see their environment as one of the most precious gift from God, they must strive to protect at all cost.

She also stated that her Organization is in total war against climate change through its massive tree planting advocacy and all other campaigns on how the people could regain their already polluted environments and advised Ndi-Anambra to form the habit of protecting their environments by not leaving the herculian task alone ito the Government .
