In line with directives issued by the Anambra State Ministry of Basic Education that Schools in riverine and flood prone Communities of the State should immediately commence full academic activities for the 2020/2021 academic calendar, Senior Special Assistant to Governor Willie Obiano on Secondary School Monitoring, Hon. Juicy Chinyere Mbakwe has began Monitoring to ascertain the level of compliance in the affected Schools.
Speaking to newsmen, Hon. Mbakwe who visited number of schools in the area said she was impressed at the full compliance of the Students and teachers in the Schools.
The schools visited, include: Ideke Grammar School Odekpe, Community Secondary School Odekpe, Community Secondary School Atani and Josephine Odua Memorial secondary School Akili-Ozizo, all in Ogbaru Local Government Area of the State.
“My observation is that both Students and teachers were glad about the initiative of our Governor , His Excellency Chief Willie Obiano. Normally, Schools resumes by September but due to heavy flooding menace in the riverine area, the affected Communities were released a new academic calendar which prompted the Schools to resume on August”

She disclosed that both teachers and students did not only resumed immediately on the ordered date but also expressed hope that they would not face flood challenges as witnessed before.
” Again, for the Schools to resume now, it would enhance them to cover their scheme of work so that before flood starts in the middle of September, they would vacate and proceed for holidays. Therefore, at the end of the day, both Schools who are in the riverine Communities and those at the upland area who had gone for holidays would resume School at the same time”
Hon. Mbakwe who described Governor Willie Obiano as education loving Goveror urged students to be more dedicated in their studies, reminding them that Governor Obiano loves them and would not want them to loose anything as far as education is concerned.
Speaking, Vice principal of Community Secondary School Odekpe, Mrs Monica Ngozi Ifeagwazie stated that students and teachers were glad because of the prospect of not facing flooding challenges while they are still in session. She said the schools in the area would cover their scheme of work within the specified period and before the arrival of floods.
Similarly, lady Chinwe Florence Edokwe who is the Vice principal of Ideke Grammar School Odekpe extolled Governor Willie Obiano, saying that they are comfortable with the new academic calendar and prayed that God bless whoever that initiated such new arrangements.
