Fire razes Conoil , as Property worth millions destroyed in Nasarawa

Property worth millions of naira were destroyed as fire gutted conoil Petrol station in the early hours of Friday.
According to an eyewitness, the fire which started at about 11: 30 pm on Thursday lasted for more than an hour.
The scene of the fire had three other petrol stations, plazas and serveral other business centers,which is in the heart of Lafia,the Nasarawa state capital.
However,it took frantic intervention of fire fighters to prevent the fire from escalating to other petrol stations.
Confirming the fire incident, Commandant of the Nasarawa State Fire Service, Dalhatu Dogara said the fire started when the tanker was in the process of discharging fuel from the tanker to the underground tank.
Dogara, added that no life was lost to the fire, even as he advised that the petrol station owners should always take precautionary measures while discharging fuel from the tank.
“The petrol owners should always take caution not to discharge fuel immediately after traveling a long distance, they should at least allow the tanker stay up to one hour before discharging because of certain electricity it generates,” he said.
The commandant, commended his men for fighting gallantly to put off the fire as well as prevent it from escalating to other petrol stations. He further called on government to equip the command with more logistics as well as manpower to ease their operation.
