A fire broke out on Thursday in a seven-storey commercial building in the Iddo area of Lagos Island. According to a statement from the Director of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service (LSFRS), Margaret Adeseye, the fire started around 10 a.m. in the archival room of the building, which houses commercial banks, a bottling company, and other businesses. Adeseye confirmed that the fire was reported at 10:22 a.m. and originated from an archival space measuring approximately 108 square meters on the first floor of the AG Leventis-owned Iddo House. She stated, “The Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service successfully extinguished the fire with the combined efforts of the Sari Iganmu and Ebute Elefun Fire Stations. The fire was contained within the archival room and did not spread to other parts of the building.” Cause and Investigation Preliminary investigations suggest that the fire resulted from self-ignition due to rising room temperatures within the confined archival space. Adeseye assured that no lives were lost, and further investigations are ongoing to determine the exact cause of the fire.
