Fire Destroys Residential Building in Oyo, Properties Worth Millions Lost

Properties worth millions of naira have been destroyed following a fire outbreak that engulfed a residential building in Oyo town.
The incident occurred on Thursday morning at Prince Bayo Sanda Villa, Farade area, reportedly caused by a power surge.
Confirming the incident, the General Manager of the Oyo State Fire Service, Mr. Yemi Akinyinka, stated that the entire building was razed.
According to him, the fire was reported at exactly 10:35 a.m. on March 27, 2025. Firefighters, led by PFS11 Makinde, were promptly deployed to the scene, where they found the building engulfed in flames.
“Our team acted swiftly to contain the fire and prevent it from spreading to nearby buildings. Investigations revealed that the occupants were not at home when electricity was restored, leading to the fire outbreak,” Akinyinka said.
He added that the fire burned for about 45 minutes before it was reported to authorities, further fueling its intensity.
While the entire building was destroyed, firefighters successfully protected neighboring properties. The Federal Fire Service, Oyo Command, also participated in the firefighting efforts.
